In Tamil Nadu, Sankara Fish is mistakenly referred to as Red Snapper in English. The correct name is Japanese Threadfin Bream. Once non-existent in the Mediterranean Sea, after the construction of the Suez Canal, many Japanese Threadfin Bream fish migrated from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.

This type of migration is referred to as Lessepsian migration. The term Lessepsian migration is named afer the developer of Suez Canal,  Ferdinand de lesseps. His statue used to be at the mouth of the Suez Canal, before the Canal was nationalized by Egypt. Now one gets to see it at Port Fuad.

An interesting thing about the migration of the fish is that reverse migration is fewer in number i.e, not many the fish move from the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea.
