The Puffer Fish – The Deadly Delicacy

The Puffer Fish – The Deadly Delicacy

Fugu is the Japanese name for Puffer fish or a dish made using this fish. Fugu can be lethally poisonous if not carefully cleaned before preparation. It has in parts of its body tetrodotoxin that needs to be carefully removed to avoid contaminating the meat.

In Japan and many other countries there are strict laws that control preparation of this fish. It is imperative that only chefs who have undergone extremely rigorous training are allowed to handle and prepare this fish at restaurants.

Here is a video that demonstrates how to prepare this fish by chef Rikizo Okamoto.
